INTENSIVE CARE REGISTRARS

The Alfred Department of Intensive Care treats 2000 patients per year. In November 2008 we opened our new state of the art 45 bed ICU.

The case-mix includes major trauma, burns, heart/lung transplantation, bridging to heart transplantation and hyperbaric medicine.

In addition the Intensive Care Department provides an ECMO service.  Most surgical and medical subspecialties are represented in the case-mix in keeping with the quaternary referral centre status of The Alfred Hospital.  There is an ICU-based echocardiography service with regular education sessions and opportunities for hands-on training.

The Alfred Department of Intensive Care is accredited for the full 2 core years of training as stipulated by the College of Intensive Care Medicine and provides regular teaching for advanced trainees preparing for the CICM examination as well as dedicated weekly teaching sessions for junior and senior registrars and weekly journal club sessions.

There are vacancies for junior registrars and senior registrars for 12 months positions commencing February 2011.

Applications opening End of May 2010 and Closing 11th July 2010.
