Sabbatical/ Honorary positions for overseas applicants

International applicants for a Sabbatical/ Honorary position should note that this position requires AHPRA (Australian Medical Registration) and significant Visa requirements.

You are advised to refer to the following websites before applying so you can understand these requirements:

Length of visits

This pathway cannot be used for short-term commitments. The visit must last for a minimum of 3 and up to 6 months.

The application process must commence at 8-12 months before you visit the Alfred ICU.

Requirements

  • These positions are open to Consultants or near Consultant-level specialists only.
  • Applicants will have recently completed or plan to complete the Alfred/VECMOS ECMO Course in the early part of their visit (for an ECMO visit).
  • Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English.
  • Successful applicants will have to apply for AHPRA (Australian medical registration) registration and a temporary working VISA.

Applying for Sabbatical/Honorary positions as an overseas applicant

To apply you must complete the application form and upload the following documents:

  • a letter of objective with intended dates of visit
  • your Curriculum Vitae  
  • a letter of support from the Head of your home hospital.

Documents that you must provide if your application is approved:

  • 2 reference checks.
  • Proof of medical registration (from your home country).
  • Proof of APRA registration (Australian Medical Registration) .
  • Proof of identity (photographic identification e.g. passport page).
  • A police check or statutory declaration.
  • A duly completed Immunisation Questionnaire. This will be sent to you when your application is approved.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
  • A temporary working VISA.
